Our therapists in Elgin, Lake in the Hills and Woodstock, specialize in trauma-informed care, which means we understand that many “presenting symptoms” can be rooted in trauma. Whether that trauma occurred in childhood or adulthood, whether it was ongoing or a single event, we are here to help.

Traumas can include car accidents, exposure to violence, sexual assault, neglect, domestic violence, physical and emotional abuse, divorce, poverty, losing a job, etc.

Traumas can also include smaller moments in time that impact us significantly. Maybe it was a parent who had a pattern of making you feel you were not good enough. Maybe it was a spouse who had a pattern of making your feel unlovable. Maybe it was a boss who made you doubt your self-worth. We call this complex trauma. Complex trauma is never a single event (like a car accident). Complex trauma is a series of events where we begin to believe negative things about ourselves, which causes all sorts of mental health symptoms.

Our Trauma Therapists

Adverse Childhood Experiences (TED Talk)

Many of our clients may come in with symptoms of depression, anxiety, sleep issues, or problems in their relationships. As trauma therapists, we often find that the root cause can be traced back to things that happened when they were young.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

We offer trauma counseling in our offices in Woodstock, Lake in the Hills, Elgin, and online counseling anywhere in the state of Illinois.
