Through my personal and professional experiences I have learned a few powerful lessons:
- Everyone has a story. People can be accomplished and successful in many areas of their life, but still struggle internally with issues that have been there for a very long time or may be the result of recent life experiences.
- A safe environment in which to explore these thoughts and feelings is rare, even for those with a strong support system.
- People are often very aware of their perceived flaws or shortcomings and sometimes are blinded to their strengths and resiliency.
Walking beside people who are struggling with emotional and behavioral problems has been my life’s work. Over the past several years in addition to providing individual and group therapy, I have managed an adolescent psychiatric unit, a crisis program and intensive outpatient programs. I have also taught a court-ordered class for parents in divorce and custody proceedings, worked in a multidisciplinary geriatric clinic, and presented trainings to other mental health professionals and community members.
One of the most influential quotes of my professional career was from psychiatrist David Mee-Lee who said,
When you become more aware of what people have had to carry in their life, you become much less judgmental of how they carry it.
I consider it a true privilege to guide people through the process of becoming the best version of themselves through a non-judgmental and strength-based approach.
On a personal note:
I am a “student of comedy.” I am an improv and stand-up comedy junkie and have enjoyed taking improv classes. I love being outdoors and taking in natural beauty. When traveling, I am always interested in finding gardens and walking trails through woods. Of course, I also appreciate the serenity and electricity of an ocean. My connection with family and friends has always been a priority and you can often find my weekends filled spending time with them, attending events in the community, or dreaming about my next opportunity to travel!
