People with a process addiction struggle with an inability to stop repeating what they are doing, even if there are health, family, financial or career consequences. A process addiction does not introduce a foreign chemical to the brain, but research shows that repeating the behavior releases chemicals in our brain that give a pleasurable feeling. This feeling is amplified for a person with a process addiction and leaves the person desiring to repeat and repeat in order to feel the high they get from doing it. Pivotal Counseling Center has therapists that specialize in process addictions at our Woodstock, Lake in the Hills and Elgin Offices. Process addictions include:
- Pornography addiction
- Sex addiction
- Technology addiction
