Do you live around Woodstock, Illinois? We have resources for people with process addictions at our counseling center.

People with a process addiction struggle to stop repeating what they are doing, even when they experience health, family, financial or career consequences. While a process addiction does not introduce a foreign chemical to the brain, studies show that repeating the behavior releases chemicals in the brain that gives a pleasurable feeling. This feeling is amplified for a person with a process addiction, which then leaves the person desiring to repeat the behavior in order to feel the high they get from doing it.

Process addictions can include addictions to:

  • Gambling
  • Pornography
  • Sex
  • Technology
  • Internet
  • Cell phone
  • Shopping
  • Tanning

We provide treatment for process addictions at our counseling center in Woodstock, Illinois. Take a look at the following list and see if anything applies to you. If so, we have the resources to help.

How Can You Tell if You Have a Problem?

Ask yourself the following questions:

  • What happens to you when you cannot engage in [YOUR ADDICTION]?
  • What are the negative consequences that have come from [YOUR ADDICTION]?
  • Have you ever tried to stop [YOUR ADDICTION] but you weren’t successful?
  • Have you had to increase the amount or intensity of [YOUR ADDICTION] to feel the same way?
  • Do you use [YOUR ADDICTION] as an escape from your emotions?
  • Does [YOUR ADDICTION] take up the majority of your time?
  • Have you spent more time and/or resources on [YOUR ADDICTION] than you planned?

If your answer was “Yes” to more than one of the above questions, then you would be a good candidate to talk with a therapist in more depth about your process addiction. Call Pivotal Counseling Center at (815) 345-3400 and we would be happy to answer your questions and discuss your situation.
