Do you live in or near Woodstock, Illinois? We offer EMDR therapy specifically at our counseling center.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) is a nontraditional approach to therapy with proven effectiveness for treating a multitude of issues. This can include:

  • post-traumatic stress disorder
  • phobias
  • negative thought patterns which can occur with anxiety and depression, as well as pain, and addiction.

We offer EMDR to the community in and around Woodstock, Illinois.

The EMDR therapy approach does not rely on traditional talk therapy, or a medicinal approach. EMDR emphasizes the non-invasive use of bi-lateral stimulation, which means to stimulate both the right and the left parts of the client’s brain. This helps to decrease and eventually eliminate problematic thoughts and/or behavioral responses.

EMDR is applied using non-invasive techniques that can produce results faster than individual, long-term therapies on their own. It is most effective, however, while working alongside traditional therapy.

What is it like?

This video will explain to you how Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing works, what it’s like, and how patients have experienced the process.

Is it right for me?

This method of therapy can be beneficial to a number of different types of patients, but the best way to find out if it’s a good fit for you is to talk to an EMDR trained therapist. You will share your past experiences with mental health therapy, outcomes you have experienced, current symptoms, and you will have the opportunity to learn more about EMDR therapy and what it is and if it is a good fit for you. You can call us to set up an appointment to see if it’s is right for you.

I already have a therapist

Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing is a specialty, and therefore most therapists are not trained in it. However, many therapists will encourage their clients who feel stuck to consider EMDR approaches. You can speak with your therapist about your interest in EMDR and we would coordinate care with your therapist so you can return to them once the EMDR sessions are complete. While some people choose to transfer over to an EMDR therapist for their ongoing therapy, it is very common for patients return to their original therapist to continue their work once they have attained a desired outcome from the EMDR.

Will my insurance cover this?

Yes! EMDR is an evidenced-based treatment so insurance covers these sessions the same way they cover individual therapy sessions.
