You could be searching for couples counseling because you think something is wrong with your relationship. We believe that acknowledging the need for marriage counseling can be a sign that something is right. Recognizing this is a good first step and it allows you to find the support and guidance of an experienced marriage counselor and start the process to move forward.
The good news is that both of you acknowledge a barrier exists to greater intimacy. We consider that realization a key turning point and use this as a foundation to begin working. Pivotal Counseling Center has marriage and family therapists in Elgin, Lake in the Hills and Woodstock, Illinois that can help you and your partner succeed.

Our Couples Counselors
Emotionally-Focused Couples Therapy (EFT)
Emotionally-Focused Couples Therapy focuses on building and strengthening adult attachment and bonds through a couple’s emotional experiences. Couples in distress are often dealing with a sense of betrayal, feelings of anger, resentment and fear, lack of trust and intimacy (both physical and emotional). They are plagued by toxic patterns of communication which EFT refers to as negative cycles. These negative cycles keep you feeling disconnected or stuck in your relationship and research shows the longer partners feel disconnected, the more negative their patterns become.Paragraph
Using EFT couples can expect to recognize and define their negative cycle, identify their own and their partners current or past hurts (vulnerable spots), revisit recent conflicts to begin creating new healthy patterns, engage and connect with their partners emotions, work on forgiveness, regain trust and intimacy, and develop and sustain a healthy way of emotionally connecting.
Couples Counseling using The Gottman Method
The Gottman Method is an evidenced based approach to couples counseling that helps couples come together through a thorough assessment of the strengths in your relationship and the areas that need improvement. Watch this short video where they discuss some of the common issues couples see in their relationship.
Will my insurance cover this?
Insurance almost always covers family counseling, and we believe couples are family. Insurance can be confusing when you call to ask if they cover couples counseling, as you will sometimes get bad information. It is best to have someone who works with insurance call to inquire about this, as we know the right questions to ask.
